Throughout the resort, you’ll find healthy options. Come to the Kai Ala Market or Pu‘ukoli‘i General Store for the freshest salads on the go, and fresh meats, seafood, fruits and vegetables to cook up a flavorful meal in your villa or at the community grills.

There are a few of my favorites located near the resort that you should check out. Gazebo Restaurant perfectly pairs affordable food items with an even better view. It’s also a 10-minute drive from the resort, so you can easily pop over for breakfast or lunch. A little more on the trendy side is Star Noodle, serving fresh house-made noodles and Asian specialties for lunch and dinner. It’s a small space, so be sure to make a reservation or expect to wait.

Literally off the path leading to our sister resort next door, you’ll find Pailolo, an open-air sports bar with a food-truck-style kitchen. The menu takes an eclectic twist on food truck classics, while featuring products indigenous to Maui. It’s also a popular spot to catch your favorite sporting events and live music.

If you’re ready to venture out on the island for a tasty change, I’d strongly recommend you head to the south shore and Po‘ipū Beach. You’ll find RumFire Poipu Beach, an oceanfront hotspot for modern island dining at Sheraton Kauai Resort. Its exquisite dining room is the perfect choice for a decadent dinner, featuring locally sourced cuisine with global influences and an extensive cocktail menu that includes the largest rum selection on Kaua‘i.  Floor-to-ceiling windows provide incomparable views of Po‘ipū Beach and stunning sunsets.

Tahiti Nui is the oldest restaurant in Hanalei and a local favorite. Since being featured in the George Clooney movie, The Descendants, it’s also become a hotspot for visitors.

Keep in mind, Tahiti Nui is a small restaurant and can get crowded. Since they don’t take reservations, I recommend coming for lunch or an early dinner. The menu is tasty and as authentic as it is varied. From macadamia panko crusted fresh ono to build-your-own pizzas, you will definitely leave satisfied.

If you’re coming for dinner, make plans to stay and enjoy the live local music featured nightly. Always a good time, you’ll want to add this spot to your list.

If you visit the south side of the island, be sure to stop by Maui Brewing Co. The 45-minute brewery tour concludes with a tasting of their flagship beers, a token for a full beer and a souvenir glass.

Keep in mind, if you don’t feel like venturing out, you can raise a glass right at the resort. Stop by Auntie’s Kitchen during happy hour to enjoy one of their fabulous signature cocktails before watching the sun set. Or try the Inu Pool Bar, located just a short stroll away at The Westin Nanea Ocean Villas: it’s nice to kick back with an ice-cold beer and enjoy the spectacular views of Kā‘anapali Beach.

One of my favorite ways to get a true taste of Hawaiian living is by visiting one of the many farmers markets peppered throughout the island. You’ll meet the locals, sample fresh, local produce, and find an assortment of baked goods, hot foods and handmade goods from local artisans.

All markets are outdoors and some are scenically set against mountains, valleys or the ocean, so you can enjoy the beautiful island sights as you browse and shop.

The closest market to The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas — and probably the most popular market on Kaua‘I — is located right down the road in Hanalei. It’s been voted as one of the “Top 5 Farmers Markets” by Hawaii Magazine’s Readers Choice Awards, and would be a great add to your itinerary.
